London borough: | Southwark |
Former address: | [now Borough High Street] |
Historical parish: | Southwark St Saviour |
Dates open: | by 1520-at least 1746 |
Notes: | Records of St Thomas's Hospital deeds mark the "Bell Inn" as latterly renamed Maidstone Buildings. Rocque's map of 1746 marks a Bell Yard in this location, so presumably the pub was still there at this time, although it may of course have closed earlier. Location on the map marks the entrance to Maidstone Buildings, but presumably the pub (if originally a coaching inn) may have been inset somewhat from the street, like many other pubs along this route. |
