Notes: | This street no longer exists (except to the west). Marked as a public house on the 1876 Ordnance Survey map, but appears as a "grocer" in the 1869 directory and 1881/1891 census returns and as a shop in the 1851/1861/1871 census returns. Indeed it's only a "beer retailer" in the 1856 Post Office directory until 1899, so it may not have always have been a beer house or pub, and may have been more of an off licence. |
