Notes: | A plan reproduced in the Survey of London marks this pub along with Tudor era pubs adjoining to the east, named the "Elephant" (adjoining the "George" directly on the east side), the "Crane" a few doors further on (mentioned by John Stow in 1598), the "Bull Head and Swan" next to it (Stow mentions a "Swanne"), the "Vine" (mentioned in a sale description of 1649 reproduced in the Survey of London), and finally the "Castle" (where the "Anchor", see separate entry under 34 Park St, now stands). |
